Piano pieces composed to be played one-handed or movies without editing. Julio Medem has chosen a film that represents a palindrome. It is the story of "Ana" and "Otto" (both forward and backward). The life of Ana and also the life of Otto works the same way. The events of the beginning are reflected towards the end. Everything comes back. Los Amantes Del Circulo Polar is a love movie, at least one about romance - just as Ana and Otto idealize romance. In their world, life has the power to change fate. Three episodes of their lives are shown. How they meet in the forest as children and Otto gets to know the feeling of love. Eventually, their parents also fall in love and so the lover becomes a stepsister. They are also lovers during their time as teenagers. Ana and Otto as adults, however, live separately. Only once they sit back to back in a cafe without realizing it. It is one of those moments in Julio Medem's film, when our hearts almost stop! In the finale both of them drift to Finland and in a miraculous way the circles of their lives cross again... Julio Medem believes that love doesn't just come from the story of the two. One plot is not enough for him! Medem trusts fate. For him, love is like a myth that predestines both for each other. Again and again Medem interrupts his story, interspersing scenes that point back or forward: At the very beginning, one character is reflected in the eyes of the other. Then this moment when a car crashes into a red bus - or not. Why? In the end it becomes clear. Medem knows that it is absolutely necessary for a metaphysical film that the characters have a grounding. That's why it is so important to him to show us how Ana and Otto grow up, with all the little problems that exist in a family. The romance of the half-brothers and sisters is developed over years. As a child Ana asks Otto to be brave! He should come to her window, climb up! Sexuality does not play a role. It exists, the free will in Medem's film - but isn't free will also controlled by a mysterious force? Everything is interconnected. We get to know a German pilot in World War II and he in turn is connected to another pilot years later. Even a newspaper note can change its meaning in Medem. And then? But I cannot possibly reveal the end, because with Medem the end is simply everything! And the end is the beginning... -
